"Mayang",
is an untouched village of Assam located on the banks of the Brahmaputra in the
beautiful Morigaon district. Assam is one of the North-Eastern states of India, surrounded by hills and hillocks
with silence and mystery it is also adjacent to Pabitora National Park that
has bountiful wildlife, including one-horned rhinoceroses, wild boar, wild
buffaloes, and elephants.
Now
it is popularly known as ‘Land of Black Magic', After a was written with the same title, this village has been the centre
of attraction for tourists for the past few years. It is believed that they
performed black magic and sorcery there for centuries. Their ancestors were highly
skilled at witchcraft and performing them.

Mayong is mention in Mahabharata, along with Pragjyotishpura (ancient Assam). Legends believe that son of Bhima, Ghatotkacha attaining different magical powers from Mayong took part in the great battle of Mahabharata.
According
to local people, many saints and witches who performed and practised black magic
still live in a dark forest. Stories are told of people vanishing, and locals
are converted into a form of animals by saints and witches of Mayong. They say that if someone is lost in the forest they would never be found.
In
Mayong archaeologists
and local people discovered, a large stone stands with a marvellous 3.85-metre
inscription, the biggest in Asia and also many stone image.
