King Ashoka was the Son of Bindusara and Grandson of Chandra Gupta Maurya (founder of “Maurya Dynasty”), also known as Chand Ashok due to his cruel personality, which had changed drastically after the bloody conquest of the "Kalinga".

More than 1,00,000 people were killed in the war. Ashoka was devastated by the mass killing. Thereafter, he swore off violence forever and became a Buddhist.

After acceptance of Buddhism, he worked for the expansion of Buddhism and even created a new religion called “Dham”. He sent his son Mahendra and Daughter Sanghmitra to spread Buddhism throughout India and the world.

His efforts took place in later centuries and Buddhism became one of the main religions in many countries like Malaya, Ceylon, China, South Korea, Shri Lanka, Indonesia, Nepal and Tibet, etc.
