Image: Wikipedia

A quite interesting and mysterious history of Bhangarh Fort gives it a special place in the list of adventure-seeking travellers. As we are all aware Bhangarh Fort is known as a hunting place, which makes it prominent among Ghost hunters, who are willing to experience and capture some extraterrestrial phenomenon.

Unlike any other fort, it is quite lonely and dusty as it is located in the foothill of Aravali mountain range near Sariska wildlife reserve. The fort has all the characteristics which you can easily find in any other similar forts in Rajasthan including big walls, several temples, public chambers, and the royal palace, due to lack of maintenance most of them are now in poor condition except for a few.

However, plenty of ghost sightings and creepy experiences faced by the people, make it diverse from others.

Who ruined Bhangarh?  What happened there? Truth or a myth?

So many questions occur in our minds when we try to connect something's or someone’s flourishing past and diminish present. So here we are again with a mystery that will make you curious to explore it.

A Page of History

The fort is a part of the vast history of Rajputana. Bhangarh Fort is a 16th-century fort built by Kachwaha ruler of Amber Bhagwant Das (son of Raja Bharmal and father of the famous Rajputana ruler Raja Man Singh I) in Alwar district, state of Rajasthan, India.

Later Bhagwant Das's second son Madho Sing became the ruler of Bhangarh. One more interesting fact is Bhagwant Das was also a Brother-in-law and general in the court of Mughal Emperor Akbar – The Great.

"Beauty and the Beast”

According to legends, “Ratnavati” the beautiful daughter of later Bhangar Raja Chatr Singh used to live here. Chatr Singh has an elder son Ajab Singh who was less popular and disliked by people in general rather than her younger sister Ratnavati. She was much famous for her beauty with a brain kind of personality.

Tales of her beauty and attractive nature were everywhere in Rajasthan. A Tantrik (priest of black magic) named Singhia, heard that too and fell for her beauty. In the temptation of her love and to win her, he cast a spell on a bottle of perfume or some kind of oil, which he saw buying the princess’s maid. When the bottle reached princess Ratnavati somehow find out about the spell, which has been cast on the bottle so she threw the bottle on a rock. Some say she was also used to practising black magic.

Under the spell, the rock hit the tantric. He was crushed under its weight and died, but just before he died, he cursed the entire family and village.

It is believed after some time, the whole village was ruined by Raja Jai Singh II of Jaipur in a battle, in 1720. Since then Bhangarh remains uninhabited and horrifying people to enter the village.

From that time, this palace becomes a home of evil spirits.

Entry into Bhangarh is prohibited during the night, after sunset and before sunrise by the government itself. There is a signboard that tells you not to enter after a specific time period. ASI (Archeological Survey of India) prohibited the night stay or any kind of camping due to misshaping that happened here.

Locals say, once few people tried to stay at night and ended up dead somehow or never seen again. Nobody knows the exact story.

Whether you believe it or not it is one of the most haunted forts in India. But the irony is that no one will tell you about this being haunted because they are all off record.
