Manali - A package of adventure and sports

 


Manali,
a small town on hills with 8,000 population, located in the Indian state of Himachal Pradesh. It is situated in the northern part of Himachal Pradesh, at the end of the Kullu Valley (also the second must-visit place). Roughly 270 kilometers away from the state capital of Shimla and 338 mi away from the national capital of Delhi.

Manali is a beautiful destination for those who seek to experience a peaceful atmosphere while looking at the breathtaking view. Many Indian tourists have visited here at least once a year, as it is a cheap and budget destination for those who don't want to spend much on their holidays. This tourist spot is packed almost every month of the year. However, the rush is at its peak in winter.


History of Manali


Though the panoramic view is its speciality, you can not deny its connections with Indian Mythology. According to Indian Mythology, Saga “Manu”- the creator of Manusmriti (Law of Manu) is to believed stepped off his ark after the great flood and recreated the human race here. Hence, there is a temple devoted to “Manu”. It is believed to one and only temple of Saga Manu in India.


The second Hindu Temple which fascinates tourists the most is Hidimba Devi Temple, well known by locals as Dhungari Temple. This temple is dedicated to the wife of the strongest Pandava Bhima among one of the five Pandavas. Hidimba met Bhima during the exile period of Pandavas, when he encountered her Brother "Hidimb" and killed him. She had vowed to marry whoever defeated his brother. This temple was built near a cave where it is believed she performed sadhana. Most part is built from wood, and animal and dancing figures have been also carved on the walls and gates of the temple.

Manali attracts every year thousands of adventure travellers, with several adventure activities like skiing, hiking, mountaineering and river rafting. Fenced by the Himalayas, Manali is home to a dense forest and rivers which gives you a chance to explore nature as well. While looking at white shimmery mountains covered with snow puts your inner soul at peace. A blend of peace and adventure that attracts nature lovers as well as Adventure enthusiasts.
